Vehicle Rescue
In 1975, Hillsborough became one of the first rescue squads in Central New Jersey to purchase the Hurst "Jaws of Life" hydraulic rescue tool. We've been using Hurst tools ever since and now have a fully equipped, state-of-the-art heavy rescue truck with a full complement of Hurst tools. The rescue fleet also includes medium and light duty rescue trucks. Additionally, each ambulance is equipped as a rescue ambulance with a Hurst hydraulic rescue tool as well as other rescue equipment.

Swift-water Rescue
With many rivers and streams, Hillsborough
is prone to flooding. The Rescue Squad operates five boats for deployment when water rescue is needed. Disaster ResponseHillsborough EMS is an active participant in the Somerset County and Hunterdon County mutual aid systems where community-based EMS agencies pledge to help each other in times of need. Hillsborough also has mutual aid agreements with several Mercer County and Middlesex County agencies. Hillsborough is one of five agencies preidentified to immediately form a "strike team" in the event Somerset County ambulances are requested in other areas. For example, even as Somerset was being ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, local ambulances were being sent to assist shore communities.

Emergency Incident Rehabilitation ("Rehab") is the process of providing rest, rehydration, nourishment and medical evaluation to responders who are involved in extended and/or extreme incident scene operations. Firefighters and other emergency responders who enter the rehab area have their vital signs monitored while they get a chance to rest, cool down, and drink fluids. Through a shared services agreement, Hillsborough Rescue Squad and Somerville Rescue Squad jointly provide rehab services for both towns' fire departments as well as providing support for various specialized teams in Somerset County (SWAT, Dive Rescue, etc.).
