May 1988 was another milestone when Hillsborough became the first community in Somerset County to address the problem of insufficient daytime volunteers, by forming the nonprofit Hillsborough Emergency Medical Services Corporation (HEMSCorp) and paid EMS crews began responding to daytime emergencies.

From our humble start in 1955 we have grown to one of the largest EMS organizations in New Jersey. Today, a combination paid and volunteer staff of over 100 people provides the best in reliable coverage while minimizing costs.
The New Jersey State Department of Health has recognized Hillsborough EMS as among the best in the state, naming us as the "Public EMS Provider of the Year" in 2004 and again in 2009.
