STAFFING
Hillsborough Rescue Squad was one of the first communities in central New Jersey to address the problem of insufficient daytime volunteers. Paid daytime crews began covering Hillsborough Township in May 1988 when the Squad formed HEMSCorp — the Hillsborough Emergency Medical Services Corporation to address this need.
There are always at least two ambulance crews on duty in Hillsborough Township.
Two paid crews are in-station from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. seven days a week. Volunteer/on-call crews cover from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. From midnight until 6:00 a.m. there is one paid crew in the station plus a volunteer/on-call crew available.
For unexpected circumstances requiring more than two crews, off duty members can be summoned 24-hours a day via pager.
Members put in over 1,000 hours of volunteer/on-call time each month, giving us a highly cost-efficient system that also provides consistent coverage. Extra crews are scheduled as needed for special events and in cases of adverse weather conditions. For example, during snowstorms there are typically at least four crews on duty.

VOLUNTEERING
The Rescue Squad is always looking for new members to enhance our ability to respond to emergencies. Since EMS operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week including holidays — we are always open and can use your help, no matter what your work schedule or availability.
Volunteering in emergency medical services (EMS) can be a rewarding way to help people and contribute to your community. Even if you are not interested in providing patient care and treatment, we can always use help with activities "behind the scenes" such as administrative/clerical roles, fundraising, public education, general station or vehicle upkeep.
